David John Mercieca
Photography has always been a great creative outlet for me. In my 20’s, i picked up my first SLR, a second hand Canon A1, and tried to capture the essence of the countries i visited on slide film.
I recently returned to photography by chance after getting a corporate headshot in 2018. I picked up a used Fuji XT2 mainly because it reminded me so much of my loved and well-used old Canon. I never expected to have that initial dose of nostalgia flourish into a passion for creating the digital imagery I am known for today.
So much has changed, at first digital photography was a little overwhelming but now I could not even consider going back to film. I love being in the field, in the thick of the action one minute and being able to see my images right away instead of waiting sometimes weeks for the slide film to be processed.
I still shoot exclusively with the Fuji system moving to the GFX Medium Format system in 2022.
In 2022, I joined the Australian Photographic Society (APS) and began to compete in national and international exhibitions. In 2024 I attained the honour of Fellow with the APS and also gained the Artist FIAP Distinction from the Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique (FIAP).
